Understanding Structural Behaviour
‘Understanding Structural Behaviour’ was originally commissioned by the Arup Partnership in the 1970s.
Since then, it has been run for prestigious clients worldwide and addresses an increasingly important aspect of structural design — understanding how structures behave. This is an essential first step in the design process and will lead to an approximate analysis as a check against the computer output.
Training Outcomes
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
- Draw the qualitative solution for the deflected shape, reactions and bending moment diagram for a range of two-dimensional frames
- Explain the relationship between the diagrams and how each one can be checked against the other two
- Demonstrate the internal equilibrium at nodes and reactions.
How To Work Through This Topic
This course consists of videos followed by PDF files containing practice problems.
You should view the videos and copy the screen displays into your notes before attempting the practice problems. After this, there is a video of the solution to the practice problems.
Finally, when you are ready, take the exam and, once you have passed, you will receive the course completion certificate.
